CMX 10 Release features a robust and capable RESTful API interface that can be used to programmatically apply the location of various assets, process analytics, manage beacons, add or delete notifications, and so on. One of the features of REST API is the live documentation available on the CMX 10 user interface. This enables you to rapidly learn API syntax by trying it live from the system via https://<cmx ip address>/apidocs/. Input and output of API uses the standard JSON format. Reminder, when using the live apidocs CMX REST Documentation be sure to provide the API Username/Password of learning/learning at the top of the page. Please, check out the Beacon Management API and let us know if this answers all your questions.
The cmxlocationsandbox.cisco.com CMX is associated with a simulation for the wireless lan controller and APs. The simulation has only wireless clients currently, and is why any beacon or tag location REST api calls return null values.
Location accuracy is based on the type and number of access points used, and tuning of the maps and spaces. Cisco has released Hyperlocation feature in CMX using directional AP technology with very good accuracy in MSE 10.
CMX will detect and track wireless clients, BLE-transmitting beacon devices, and Wi-Fi tags, within the wireless network. The location and notification APIs will allow viewing or tracking of these devices.
Regarding using the MSE north-bound interface for third-party applications and the CMX Location Analytics, please see Cisco Mobility Services Engine - Products & Services - Cisco for more information, and Cisco Mobility Services Engine - Support - Cisco for software, installation and maintenance.
